Names Acting President to Take Helm

Meriden − Officials at the statewide health foundation credited with the successful passage of sweeping health care reform legislation in Connecticut today announced that Frances G. Padilla of New Haven will serve as its acting president.

Padilla, formerly the foundation’s vice president of program, policy and administration, was appointed to the post effective Jan. 6 by the foundation’s board of directors.  Foundation officials said she will assume all the responsibilities of Juan A. Figueroa, who assumed the helm in 2003.  Figueroa has been granted a leave of absence to pursue outside interests, the foundation said.

“We wish Juan and his family all the best in their newest ventures,” Padilla said.  “The foundation will continue its work to ensure effective federal and state health care reform,” she said.

The foundation is the chief architect and supporter of SustiNet, landmark health care reform legislation passed into law through a veto override in July, 2009. The goal of the plan is to provide an affordable public health insurance choice and universal health care coverage by 2014.

“We look forward to continuing the journey to achieving universal health care with our many partners and the broad-based coalition of reformers in our state,” Padilla said.
