Fighting Rising Prescription Drug Prices

As prescription drug prices rise and people struggle to pay for their medications, we are working with national and state partners to protect consumers and ensure everyone has affordable access to the medicines they need.

 

With the current turmoil in Washington, we can’t rely on Congress and the President to solve this problem.  Connecticut needs to take action to protect people from the harm caused by unfair and unaffordable prescription drug prices.

Poll of Connecticut Residents Shows Concern about Rising Costs of Prescription Drugs & Support for Government Action Across Party Lines

Prescription drug costs a major worry of Connecticut residents

“According to a survey of more than 900 Connecticut adults conducted from January 31 – February 9, 2018, there is great concern about prescription drug costs and a desire to enact solutions.

“Fully half of the survey respondents reported being either ‘worried’ or ‘very worried’ about affording the cost of prescription drugs.  Among those who report taking their prescription drugs regularly, worry about affording drugs rises to a shocking 88% of respondents.”

Connecticut residents support government solutions across party lines

94% of those surveyed supported authorizing the Attorney General to take legal action to prevent price gouging or unfair prescription drug price hikes

  • 92% of those who identify as Republican support this measure
  • 94% of those who identify as Democrat support this measure
  • 96% of those who identify as neither party support this measure

93% support requiring drug companies to provide advance notice of price increases and information to justify those increases

  • 88% of those who identify as Republican support this measure
  • 95% of those who identify as Democrat support this measure
  • 95% of those who identify as neither party support this measure

89% support the government setting standard prices for drugs to make them affordable

  • 85% of those who identify as Republican support this measure
  • 92% of those who identify as Democrat support this measure
  • 92% of those who identify as neither party support this measure

The message is clear — prescription drug costs are rising, and Connecticut residents, regardless of party, want something done about it.
